"Mama, will you play a game with me?" I hear these words at least ten times every day.  Miss M  loves  games!  She'd rather play a game than do almost anything else. Our newest addition to our game collection is the Medieval History Memory Game from The Classical Historian . I'm sure you're familiar with the traditional format of the game of Memory.  You lay out tiles; one person turns over two tiles, hoping for a match; then it's the next person's turn.  The trick is to remember where the tiles you see are located so you can make more matches than your opponent(s). While it wasn't a bad week in our homeschool, it was a slightly disorganized and disjointed week.  We got everything done and had pretty good attitudes, but it just didn't feel like things ran smoothly.  Here are a few snippets of our week. Monday was a dreary, gloomy day.  In order to get some good light for reading, Miss M dragged her bean bag chair and giant teddy bear to the back door.  She sat there cozily reading a second Happy Hollisters book! Miss M's favorite way to learn a new memory verse is to write it on the white board and then erase a word at a time, reading it between each erasure and filling in the missing word. She gets so tickled when she gets towards the end and there are only a few words left. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock" (Matthew 7:24). After I made the first t-shirt quilt , I was immediately commissioned to make another one.  This time, I had less original material to work with, so I had to be creative.  I ran across this tutorial and decided it was exactly what I needed to make this second quilt. I bought 12 fat quarters and 3 yards of sashing material, which turned out to be just about perfect! (I could have used another two fat quarters, but I made due with some creative piecing). There are shirts from infancy on through marriage!  Sone of the shirts even belonged to the recipient's husband, including one from their first date!  My favorites are the ones made from the Girl Scouts shirt and vest complete with patches and pins!  I made sure to put them on the edges though 'cause I didn't think they'd be too comfortable to lay on.  The back is a soft plaid flannel shirting material.  I got all they had left at JoAnn and it still wasn't quite enough, so I had to piece it cre...

I mentioned in this post that we will be using the Scripture Memory System from Simply Charlotte Mason. I am not, however, using their suggested list for first grade.  I’m sure their list is great, but I already had a few ideas about what I want Miss M to learn this year, so I came up with my own list.  I formatted them the size of 3x5 index cards and printed them on cardstock.   And now that I’ve done the work, you don’t have to! At least not if you use the same verses we are.
