Heidi dress and pinafore

While I was working on my sister's wedding dress, I watched a lot of Netflix movies.  Among them was the 1993 version of Heidi with Noley Thornton.  I decided that as soon as the wedding dress was done, I needed to make Miss M a Heidi dress and pinafore.


I used Butterick 4054 view C for the dress.  I've used this pattern before and know it runs very wide for my girl, so I used size 1 width and size 4 length which worked out perfectly!   I made it of some light weight quilting cotton Hubby helped me pick out at Hobby Lobby.



For the pinafore, I used Ottobre 1-2009 #8 the "Babushka" pinafore dress.  I left off the shoulder frill, placed the front and back pieces 2 inches away from the fold to increase the amount of gathering and split the back pieces up the middle to have the pinafore open in back.  I am absolutely in love with the effect!  Of course, the finishing touch is the jacquard ribbon I purchased at JoAnn expressly for this purpose.  They had it in two colorways and I'm thinking of going back for a length of the other one.


Miss M likes it too. She wore it three days straight and it is now badly in need of laundering!  I plan to dress her in it and go over to her lola's house for some rustic-looking photos if the weather will ever cooperate.

    Thanks! I really love it too. I want to make more! A whole wardrobe full. Isn't likely to happe, but a girl can dream, right?

Cocoa Krispie Sod House: a model you can eat

Ahh! I just realized I haven't blogged our Adventures in U.S. History since Week 26!!  What happened?!  We've just been plugging away contentedly at our work and are nearing the end of our school year.  So, while I go get myself sorted and whip up the rest of our weekly reviews for you, I thought you might like to see our latest project. Letter posters with memory verses

I have very fond memories of the cursive letter banner that was posted around the top of the walls in my fifth grade classroom.  I thought it would be fun to make something similar for our homeschool classroom (a.k.a. our kitchen). I decided to include a Bible verse for each letter.  At this point it's mostly for my own benefit since Miss M doesn't read yet.  They serve as great reminders to help her memorize these important bits of Scripture while her little mind is still a sponge.  (It saddens me that my memorization skills are not what they were when I was a kid!)   The fun part is I saved my work in a pdf file for you to use too! Just click the image above to download the file.  I laminated mine before sticking them around my kitchen walls with ticky tacky.  (The laminator is a new toy!)  Enjoy!
